Ethics and business go hand-in-hand. Understanding that ethics is the base of all decision making will make you a successful person both personally and professionally. The better you understand ethics and how to make ethical decisions will help your overall happiness with your life. I see this every day at work, however, it is the reverse roll. This said person is not loyal to her husband, is always extending the truth, and trying to find excuses for the wrong doing of her children. These same habits shine through in her projects. The person you are outside of work seems to bleed into the person you are at work whether it is intentional or not.

    • Adapting to change
    • Culture diversity
    • Perceptions on cultures

    1. Hi Colette,
I agree with you that there has to be an understanding or knowledge of ethics. I think we are all born for the most part good, and circumstances and environment have the ability to impact who we become. I also agree that how you behave at work and at home trickle over to each other. If you do unethical things at work you'll probably do them at home and vice versa.

Discuss how one's conception of the good life affects one's ethics in business.

Once one decides, what they believe is their view of the “good life” they then must decide how they will achieve their goals. In general, we would like to hope that the majority of people go about achieving goals in an ethical and legal manner. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. We hear on the news daily of people who tried to get ahead using unethical or illegal practices. Greed can be a major factor in these activities. In a world that runs on instant gratification, people want what they want, when they want it. If that means that, they have to lie, cheat, and steal to get it, well then so be it. People without a strong moral and ethical background may not find what they are doing to be “that bad” or that they are deserving of more, and since no one will give it to them they just take it. To achieve ones standard of the “good life” by unethical means would almost be a contradiction, as leading a good life would require you to be a good person, and yet people tend to think of a good life in monetary terms, giving no thought to the other aspects of life that make it good.

From the introduction and what we currently know about the course we believe that it is a course on business ethics and the different ways people can compromise their morals and values in the business industry for the sake of “getting ahead.” Yet it is also about personal ethics, in that we all have personal choices that we make for ourselves, our families and our futures.

  3. The Good Life.... I am typing this one handed while feeding my son and holding him with the other. I am working on being a stay at home dad while I finish this degree and then proceed onto a masters. I actually have some time to think about how I am going to approach the rest of my life. Until then I am going to be at home with my family. I think he just pooped.....NOW THIS IS THE GOOD LIFE.

  5. MOMS on a Mission (Maura) - I love your groups outlook on the good life and agree that people get hung um on things that don't matter at the end of their lives.

Jeremy - enjoy every second of every day with that little fellow. That truly is the good life and keeps things in perspective. Innocence and an empty vessel waiting to be fed and led by his loving father.
